Markku Heikkinen (b. 1966) hasn’t shied away from difficult subjects in his work as a documentary director and as a TV and radio journalist. Following the film All Boys (Vinokino 2009), Heikkinen has done a further three short documentaries, in which he expands the picture of the European boy-business. Surrounding the sexuality for sale is a pattern that joins together porn, prostitution, rights of sexual minorities and the innocent sounding looking for sex. The protagonists of these documentaries could be anyone of us. They make the viewer think about the slippery line between charity and abuse. Heikkinen doesn’t moralize or snoop, and perhaps that is why he can get so close to the interviewees.
